According to the new rich list compiled by The Sunday Times, Cheryl Cole has catapulted herself up in the world of the wealthy. With her accumulating wealth it’s less about where she’s come from and more about where she’s going.
Cheryl made her name and amassed a fortune from her pop band Girls Aloud which had a consecutive string of top ten chart hits. But over the last year, her wealth has increased by 150% to approximately £11m.
This last year alone has seen her receive £1.2m as a judge on The X Factor as well as landing two £500,000 deals respectively with Coca-Cola Zero and L’Oriel. Her bank account won’t have been damaged by her debut solo album 3 Words either, which shot to a place at number one.
To add to her accumulating wealth HarperCollins have signed the singer-TV personality to write five romantic novels for them. Cheryl has never written before but with a five book contract at £1m per book, she’s looking forward to getting started. However rather than being given free reign of the novels she has been instructed to write in a similar vein to chick-lit queen Marian Keyes.
Alongside her impending romantic novels she has also confirmed that she is to publish an autobiography entitled My World, due for release in September 2010. The payment for this remains speculative however, though it is fair to believe that it will have increased her balance.
She also stands to gain significantly from her impending divorce from husband Ashley Cole, himself a multi-millionaire footballer.
Despite attempting to keep it out of the public eye and insisting that she only wants the dogs and her home, the settlement is bound to push her above the threshold for the British number one musician under 30, which is currently held by Charlotte Church. Even if she only takes the home, she would be sitting on assets worth £3.5m.
So if a year was enough to enhance her wealth by 150%, and with a high-profile, messy divorce impending, what will the next year hold for Cheryl Cole?Aside from some new books, she has also expressed a desire to release her own perfume and clothing line.Although neither have been confirmed, the likelihood of their appearance on the market is increasing given how bankable Cole has become.
