Car advertising has come a long way since the days when bikini-clad models draped themselves over shiny bonnets.
Manufacturers have wised up to the fact that women drive, too, and - newsflash - some of us even choose our own cars.
Yet they still manage to patronise us with silly car gadgets and twee gimmicks.
Take the VW Beetle’s dashboard vase, or the Nissan Micra’s handbag hook, or those awful pink ‘Princess on Board’ stickers.
Seriously, is this what feminists burnt their bras for? And now there’s a new female-friendly car accessory that tops the lot: car lashes.
Yes, you read that correctly - false eyelashes for your car’s headlights. Because cars just aren’t cute enough, are they?
The company that makes them, Carlashes.com, suggests you ‘dress up your headlights with a touch of fashion and a twinkle of crystal!’.
Perhaps we should have seen this coming; Cheryl Cole and Jordan are rarely spotted without their false lashes and both resemble a living Girls’ World makeup doll head.
Time to take a stand, ladies, before our cars go the same way, too.

I refuse to believe those are real. Surely someone somewhere is having a joke? Please?
On the Beetle’s vase, however, I would disagree that’s a twee gimmick aimed at women. It’s surely a nod to the hippy image of the old style Beetle? Peace n love and a daisy in the dashboard.

Late response I know (only just seen this piece)…but it did catch my eye!…..You probably won’t be too keen on my site, Alison (women-friendly car accessories at http://www.me-mo.co.uk)…but I see it as a bit of a dig at those all too earnest petrol heads out there and a way in which women can take ownership of their cars in a more personal (and hopefully powerful)way. It doesn’t mean we’re being wimpy or patronised in any way but just giving (some) women more of a choice in the over-represented male car aftermarket
