A millionaire businesswoman has spent a record $500,000 to rent a Hamptons mansion for two weeks – to help her find love.
Romantic Cheryl Mercuris is rent the stunning 14-bedroom Sandcastle mansion for a whopping $1,488 an hour.
The single mum, who made her fortune in direct marketing, says she is travelling from her home in Tampa, Florida, for the Hamptons to find an eligible bachelor.
The Hamptons – specifically Southampton and East Hampton – are a collection of small villages on the east end of Long Island, New York.
They are famous as a summer haunt of New Yorkers desperate to escape the city – particularly wealthy ones. An increasing number of rich Europeans and South Americans are also beginning to flock to the seaside resort every summer.
‘The dating pool is much better here than in Florida!’ the single mother told the New York Post.
‘There are a lot of career-minded people here, unlike the west coast of Florida, which is very quiet and laid-back – not great for someone who is single and raising a child.
‘I’m not on a mission. If it’s meant to be, it will happen.
‘People probably think I’m divorced, spending my ex-husband’s money.
‘I’m proud that I made my own money. It’s so uncommon. I like the fact that I’m a self-made woman.’
The $49.5m mansion in Bridgehampton sits on 12 acres, has 19 bathrooms, a bowling alley, a squash court, a spa and a rock climbing wall.
She will spend her expensive two-week holiday with her six-year-old son, her nephew and her parents.
‘It’s a kid’s wonderland. I love everything about the Hamptons.’
