International Women’s Day (Monday, 8th March) is fast approaching, and is the perfect chance to highlight women making waves, not just in the business world but in all walks of life.

Just last week Amy Williams won Britain’s first gold medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics, in the bob skeleton event. We’re not exactly renowned for scoring much on the medals board at the Winter Games so how great it is that a woman has given us something to smile about.

Looking back over the past 16 years we’ve only won gold medals on two other occassions – in 2002, when the women’s curling team made that infamous swoop to victory, and way back in 1984 when Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill were in their figure skating-prime. It’s safe to say, Great Britain are reliant on women to succeed in the Winter Olympics!

As always we’re championing women in business and constantly working to provide support and networking opportunities to the many women business owners around the country. That will be the focus of the day at the 2010 everywoman Conference Scotland in Glasgow next Tuesday, where attendees will not only have the chance to network, but will gain an insight into winning networking techniques from Heather White, while a Panel Discussion featuring the likes of Summera Shaheen and Kelly Forsthy-Gibson will discuss Winning Ideas. Are you planning on attending? Start the networking early in the Scotland Conference discussion or get tweeting using the hashtag #2010Scotland.

To highlight the focus on International Women’s Day, the BBC are inviting a female-only audience to the March 11th edition of Question Time taking place in Dewsbury. It’d be really great to see, and hopefully hear, women business owners and women in the workplace being represented in the audience, so if you live nearby try and get yourself a ticket and make your voice heard! If you do attend make sure to let us know how it went right here in the everywoman Network, or send us a tweet to @everywomanUK.
