We want to make sure schools don’t miss out on the chance to offer their girls a truly memorable experience and the opportunity to widen their career aspirations.

If you have already registered for our Breaking the Mould conference then we look forward to meeting you at what promises to be a fantastic event.  If not, there is still time to sign up for the occasion which will showcase inspirational women who have chosen non-traditional careers and who will capture the students’ imaginations, encouraging them to think in adventurous ways about their approach to the world of work.

To be held on MARCH 1st, 2010 at Park Lane’s glittering InterContinental Hotel, the day long event – to include morning coffee, lunch and a glamorous champagne and fruit juice reception – will be ENTIRELY FREE to teachers and pupils.

We have organised some top flight panels of speakers for the conference which will start at 10.00 am. We will look at Apprenticeships and careers to do with the senses such as optometry and food. We will take a look at some of the ‘hidden’ jobs to be found within big organisations ranging from things like PR and Marketing, to community programmes and sponsorship. There will be a panel of women who have completely changed career direction showing that wrong choices can be righted and also suggesting the flexibility which may well be needed with ever longer working lives.  We will have speakers on technology and telecoms and will look at the possibilities associated with entrepreneurship.

We had an overwhelming response to the first two Breaking the Mould conferences, organised by Financial Mail on Sunday, and we would urge you and your school to register quickly while we still have some places available.

The climax of what promises to be a stimulating day will be the live final of our MoneySense Apprentice Challenge, a competition to design and bring to market a game to improve the teaching of personal finance in schools. The finalists will be competing for £5,000 of prize money and the judges will be stars of the BBC’s Apprentice led by Margaret Mountford. (For more information about the Apprentice Challenge, click here).

To register your interest please email details of your school and the names of teachers and sixthformers who would like to attend to my PA, Jackie.Jay@mailonsunday.co.uk. We are restricting each school to four places but if you would like extra should that be possible closer to the conference then please let us know.

A fantastic initiative and a real in your face positive demonstration of Corporate Social Responsibility in action from a national media brand. Events such as this can only inspire young people to achieve professonally and they emphasise that there is more to life than becoming a celebrity! As a young girl I sought the advice of role models that did not fit into the strait jacket of accepted norms. Ironically I now get asked to speak to young people about overcoming adversity and I share through personal experience how challenges that can appear insurmountable are not if you tackle them bit by bit (I am a marketer and writer yet have Chronic repetitive strain injury severe enough to be classed as a disability, yet this did not stop me from writing my first book last year) A great piece and an incredible initiative. It will be good to read the follow up after the event.
