Top celebrity chefs Heston Blumenthal (Fat Duck) and Alain Roux (The Waterside Inn) were out in force last week for the launch of a cookery book featuring 25 recipes from top chefs around the globe.
Funds from the publication will be donated to the Dan Snook Trust Foundation, a charity that aims to help young people aged 15-25 who have been affected by drugs.
Marylyn and Kevin Snook’s son Dan died after an overdose of drugs, a habit he sunk into after a horrific summer during which it was claimed he was sexually abused while working on a commercial fishing boat.
Dan (pictured), who was 19 when he died, had a passion for cooking and fishing.
Since his death, father Kevin, a chef, has worked tirelessly to produce ‘A Boy After The Sea’ a seafood cookery book, which features recipes from world renowned chefs including Heston Blumenthal, Alain Roux and Rick Stein.
‘Dan was such a considerate young man; he was also polite and helpful, even to strangers, who would simply pass him by on a busy street, says Kevin Snook: ‘ He would always stop and take time to listen to their problems and very often part with any change he happened to have in his pocket.
‘Another passion that Dan enjoyed was cooking, trying new dishes, experimenting with ingredients and tasting what nature has to offer. It was therefore a natural path for him to join a culinary college and to start training to be a professional chef.’

His all too brief existence in this world had been scarred by sexual abuse, adds Snook: ‘In Dan’s Memory we wanted to reach out and help others as Dan had done throughout his life.  Combining his love for the outdoors with a solid plan we believe the Trust can be a vehicle to support those who are truly lost and hopefully this may prevent the same tragedy.’
